What to expect when you visit the Raymore Church of Christ In the religious environment of our world today you can never be quite sure what to expect when you walk into the doors of an unknown congregation. Here is exactly what you will see when you visit the Raymore Church of Christ.
YOU WILL BE TREATED WITH KINDNESS Every visitor will be treated as our honored guest. You will not be judged by the clothes that you wear (James 2:1-7), or your knowledge of “church etiquette.” We will not draw any public attention towards you such as asking you to introduce yourself or pointing the entire assembly’s attention towards your direction. BRING YOUR CHILDREN!!! There is no need to worry about noisy kids...the more the better. We are simply glad that you have come to be with us. NO, WE ARE NOT JUST ANOTHER DENOMINATION Non-denominational churches are the fad of the day. Beware, however, of the this designation. In practical terms most of the groups out there today are not truly "Non-denominational," but rather, are "inter-denominational." At the Raymore Church of Christ it is our sincere desire to be NON-denominational in the purest sense of the word. It is our wish and purpose to wear no other name than Christ's, and to be known simply as Christians, members of the body of Christ. Collectively, we refer to ourselves as the Church of Christ not in an attempt to be "sectarian," but on the contrary, to identify ourselves as the Church belonging to Christ.
THE BIBLE IS OUR ONLY GUIDE It is the book that we study in our ‘Bible’ classes and it is the book from which every sermon is derived. You will never be asked to accept what any man says about the Bible. In fact, we will encourage you to study the Bible for yourself and come to your own conclusions about what God has revealed (Acts 17:11). Don’t have a Bible? Don’t worry about it…we have plenty for everyone. ACTS OF WORSHIP We strive to worship and serve God in the same way that the very first Christians did; so you can plan on seeing the same things that you read about in the New Testament. 1) Teaching and Preaching One of the goals of our coming together is to learn more about what God has revealed to us in His Bible and how to apply those truths to our everyday lives. This is the goal of our classes and sermons. 2) Prayer Paul told the Thessalonians to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We consider it a great opportunity to be able to cast our cares upon the creator of all things who cares for each and every one of us (1 Peter 5:7). We are told that it is through prayer that the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard our hearts and our minds (Phil. 4:6-7). 3) Giving / Contribution You will see that a collection is taken only on Sundays (i.e. the first day of the week - 1 Cor. 16:1-3). Member’s of this congregation set aside a portion of the things that they have been blessed with for the purpose of spreading the gospel. WE DO NOT ASK NON-MEMBERS AND VISITORS TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT OUR WORK. If you feel the need to place something into the collection plate, please fill out a visitor’s card and put that in there. 4) The Lord’s Supper If you visit on Sunday you will see the congregation taking the Lord’s Supper: eating unleavened bread and drinking the fruit of the vine (i.e. grape juice). This is a requirement for God’s people to memorialize the death of Jesus (Matt. 26:26-29). Like the Christians in the first century, we do this every Sunday (Acts 20:7). You are welcome to take of the Lord’s Supper if you choose, however, you are not required or expected to unless you are a saved member of the Lord's Body. 5) Singing Like the first century Christians we participate in acapella singing of songs, hymns, and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:19). We do this to teach and to encourage one another along with offering up our heartfelt appreciation and worship to God. We have song books for you to follow along with us, and you are welcome to sing if you like. The words of our songs are easy to understand and they should be sung from the heart (Col. 3:16). THE STEPS OF SALVATION AND AN INVITATION At the end of every service we offer an invitation to become a Christian. If you… 1) Believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 20:30-31) 2) and if you are ready to repent of your past sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30) 3) and if you are ready to confess Jesus to be the Son of God (Matthew 10:32; Acts 8:37) 4) and if you are ready to be baptized [i.e. immersed in water] in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-11; 1 Peter 3:21) Then you may respond to the invitation. If you have any other questions about our congregation please feel free to email us or call us at any time. |
